Pan Gyul

Pan Gyul is the story of Roshan Stapleton, a Trinidadian steel pan player who was born during a time when females were not allowed to play the steel pan drum. So as a young girl, she had to sneak around to get lessons. Her natural talent improved so much that she was asked to participate in Trinidad’s Carnival as a teenager. Once word got out that she was playing, she lost friends and was presented with the ultimatum of being expelled from school if she didn’t quit playing the steel pan.

“PAN GYUL” explores the history of the steel pan drum as well as how a squashed dream can change the course of one’s life.Both siblings tell their stories from their own points of view through heart-wrenching and heart-warming flashbacks.
